Fresh Wax: Thrice - Identity Crisis

Identity Crisis is the first real debut from the band Thrice. It was released in 2001 (first on Green Flag, then on Hopeless/Sub City), but wasn’t released on vinyl until 2010 by Animal Style Records. The pressing is long out of print and is out of 1000 with the following variants: Black 100, White 200, Green 300, Blue 400. There are also 30 test presses. I had Patrick from A City Inside screen print a jacket on white with the design in blue. I can remember driving around blasting “Phoenix Ignition” thinking that song was the heaviest, most awesome song ever. I don’t think that there will be any represses soon of this album, but every other Thrice album is currently being repressed or about to.

hermitologist:

I made a super fun and silly video with my friend Brad from Adventure Drums, who you should absolutely be following on Twitter and YouTube (if you’re not already).

A few notes:

  • Racquetball is awesome (and awkward as hell).
  • I am going to wear a poop brown tracksuit every day from now on.
  • I suck at “soloing”. (And many other things.)
  • If I were forced to solo for more than four bars I’d hold my breath until I died.
  • The urinal scene took at ~30 minutes to shoot because we couldn’t stop laughing.
  • I was getting over a cold. Sorry for sniffling.
  • I’ve never had more fun shooting any sort of band-related video. Ever.
  • Brad is one of the best dudes I know.

Fresh Wax: Less Than Jake - Pezcore Special Edition

Pezcore is the first LTJ album that I ever heard back in middle school. Back then I thought “Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts” was one of the best songs ever written. I have always wanted to add this record to my collection, but couldn’t ever justify the steep prices for the OG releases. I was happy to snag this remastered special edition copy that was released in 2001 on eBay for $10. I hadn’t ever seen one, and didn’t know anything about this “special edition”. After emailing Fueled By Ramen and asking some questions on the release info, it turns out there were only 1000 pressed and only 250 autographed (which is what I happened to buy). While the music is still great, I’m not a big fan of picture discs. Listen to Pezcore.

Fresh Wax: Billy Bragg & Wilco - Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key

In this segment, I am going to try to attempt to post some new-to-my collection vinyl, or just some of my favorites if I haven’t bought any recently. I’m going to start with the latter. So with no further ado, I present to you Fresh Wax.

In 1998, Billy Bragg and Wilco collaborated to complete Woody Guthrie songs that had not seen the light of day in years. His daughter allowed Billy Bragg and Wilco to pour through the boxes of books containing countless songs that her father never had the chance to put music to. This 7” was released before Mermaid Avenue, with “Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key” as a single. The B side has 2 non LP tracks, “My Thirty Thousand” and “Bugeye Jim.” Both are great songs. I tried contacting Electra about pressing info, but I received no reply. I assume this is a UK release, and it doesn’t come up very much.

Brew of the Day: La Fin Du Monde

La Fin Du Monde is a great triple fermented ale from France. The triple fermentation yields a higher ABV of 9%, while not ruining the taste. It is a nice full bodied more Belgium tasting ale that starts out strong, but finishes nice. Worth the steep price every now and then.
